Bio
I
am an award-winning writer/editor and director of executive
and financial communications, heading my own communications,
coaching, and consulting firm, CRAINCOMM. I grew up in
Dalton, Georgia, and received my B.A. degree in humanities
from Emory University and my M.A. degree in comparative
literature from Harvard University. My professional
background includes global corporate and agency
communications experience in several industries. I have in
senior-level communications positions with Sabre Holdings, a
global leader in travel commerce, Exxon Mobil Corporation,
the world’s largest energy and chemical company, and
Southern Company, the largest electric utility group in the
U.S.
As an advertising and
public relations account executive and copywriter, I have
managed major international accounts. My background
encompasses all major areas of communications – executive,
employee, media, marketing, creative, financial, investor,
public affairs, trade shows, contributions, and community.
My writing/editing skills have won many awards, including
the Gold Quill Award of Excellence (twice) from the
International Association of Business Communicators. My
work has appeared in numerous publications – from
Reader’s Digest to The Wall Street Journal. I
have an M.A. degree from Harvard.
I have produced white papers, speeches, brochures,
Web content, and other writing on numerous public policy
issues -- from acid rain to global warming, cost/benefit
analysis to nuclear power, e-government to next-generation
call center optimization. I also conduct seminars on
cutting-edge communication, speechwriting and delivery, and
other subjects. My approach covers both the inner dynamics
of communication as well as the externals.
I am pleased to be the
father of two wonderful girls. My interests include movies,
music, theater, dancing, piano, reading, writing, tennis,
working out, foreign languages, meditation, massage, and
